Alec Gores, Founder, Chairman and CEO, The Gores Group

Mr. Gores is the Chairman and CEO of The Gores Group, a firm he founded in 1987. This June, the firm closed its second fund, with $1.3 billion in commitments to do deals in the technology, industrial, telecommunications and services sectors. The firm has offices in Los Angeles, Boulder, Colo., and London.

Mr. Gores's labors have made him a billionaire and earned him a perennial spot on the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans. Gores' brother, Tom, also a billionaire, is the founder of Platinum Equity Group.

Alec Gores began his career as an entrepreneur and operating executive. In 1978, he self-funded and founded Executive Business Systems (EBS), a developer and distributor of vertical business software systems. Within seven years, EBS had become a leading value-added reseller in Michigan and employed over 200 people. In 1986, CONTEL purchased EBS and Mr. Gores subsequently began acquiring and operating non-core, under-valued and under-performing businesses.

Mr. Gores currently oversees Gores Group's investment activities and its investment portfolio. Mr. Gores earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Western Michigan University.
